The last quarter of the year is probably one of my favorite times of the year.
The days are cooler, the leaves start to change color and the days become shorter.
Days spent basking in the warm summer sun are replaced by crisp mornings and the raking of piles of leaves to be destroyed by rambunctious children.
It’s also a time to start reflecting on the year that seems to have flown by and is quickly coming to an end.
Halloween will breeze by and soon it will be Thanksgiving.
A time filled with the 3 F’s: food, family, and football.
But as a Christian what does Thanksgiving really mean?
What should it be about?
According to dictionary.com thanksgiving is,” the act of giving thanks, grateful acknowledgment of benefits or favors, especially to God.”
Merriam-Webster.com says something similar,” a public acknowledgment of celebration of divine goodness.”
In essence, Thanksgiving is a time for us to reflect on all that God has done for us this year and to show our gratitude to Him.
When I think about giving God thanks it’s usually for the things that he has done for me: good health, keeping my family safe, financial blessing, etc.
It’s easy to remember the material blessings that God provides for us, but what about the other blessings?
I decided to search the scriptures to find out if there were other reasons to give him thanksgiving.
Based on my research I found 11 scriptures on why we should thank God this Thanksgiving.
